About AeroBing
Our Founding
AeroBing was founded on the dream of launching a student designed & manufactured rocket beyond the Kármán line - the boundary separating Earth’s atmosphere from space (100 km). If we succeed, we will be the second student rocketry team to do so. In our group, we pride ourselves on our commitment to designing and manufacturing virtually everything in-house. To us, it is paramount that each member hones and develops as many engineering-related skills as possible while on the team.
Our Values
Safety
AeroBing is committed to practicing rocketry safely and within the boundaries of the law. We work closely with our advisors, launch sites, and technical personnel to ensure safe practices in our organization and its operations. High power rocketry to space is regulated by the FAA and is legal for civilians. Our radio communications systems conform to FCC guidelines, operating on authorized bands.
New York State Pride
Our goal is to create the first New York amateur built rocket to reach space. This will be a major achievement for SUNY and the State of New York. We are excited to continue Binghamton's rich history in the aerospace industry and develop a feasible means by which other students can obtain hands-on experience with rocketry and aerospace.
Growth
Founded in 2019, AeroBing Rocketry began with a focus on aerodynamics, propulsion research, and engineering design. By mid-2020, despite the challenges of the pandemic, the team expanded and transitioned into hands-on static fire testing. In 2021, generous support from NASA, SUNY Binghamton, private donors, and crowdfunding enabled us to begin launching scale-model rockets. Since then, we've built and launched multiple rockets in the Mojave Desert, continuing to develop our propulsion systems with space as our ultimate goal.

We Go Beyond.
High Power Rocketry Level 1 and 2 Certifications
In collaboration with the NAR (National Association of Rocketry) we help our member gain their certification through mentorship with upperclassmen.
Community Engagement Events
Through Watson College of Engineering, we are able to work with local elementary and middle schools during events such as Engineers Week, Community Day, Boy Scouts of America - where young students are able to come and learn how we make our rockets and get hands on experiences.
Boy Scout Badges
In participation with Boy Scouts of America, AeroBing has a rocketry badge we give Boy Scouts who sucessfully complete our class on rocketry, which teaches them not only about rockets but also how to safely launch them.
